Item #1: Regional Competitions
Representatives from each of Maryland’s six SkillsUSA regions held initial planning meetings at the September 24, 2009, Advisor Training Conference. We have received confirmed regional competition dates from Regions’ 4 and 6. Please forward all other confirmed dates to State Director.
If you or a representative from your local chapter have not participated in any additional planning meetings please contact the State Director. Attached you will find three reference documents: Regional Guidelines, Regional Map and Contest Numbers for Schools and Regions.
Item #2: Board of Director’s Application Deadline
SkillsUSA Maryland Board of Director’s applications were distributed at the September 24 Advisor Training Conference. If you would like to serve your board, please complete and return the application (see attached) by December 18, 2009.
Item #3: Tee Shirt Design Challenge Deadline
The December 1st deadline for the new Tee Shirt Design Challenge is quickly approaching. Encourage students from your chapter to design the official SkillsUSA Maryland 2009-2010 tee shirt. Check e-mail update #4 for contest guidelines.
Item #4: Pin Design Contest Winners
Thank you to all students that submitted pin designs this year. We congratulate the following students that created the top three designs for 2009-2010:
1st Place (Gold) – Anna Genova, Thomas Edison High School of Technology, Montgomery County
2nd Place (Silver) – Maddie Crow, Thomas Edison High School of Technology, Montgomery County
3rd Place (Bronze) – Moriah Rochlinski, North Point High School for STI, Charles County
Anna, Maddie and Moriah will be recognized with medals at the 2010 State Championship Awards Ceremony. Anna’s design will be submitted as Maryland’s entry for the National SkillsUSA Pin Design contest.
Item #5: Important Meeting for Culinary Arts, Commercial Baking and Food & Beverage Service Instructors
Please forward the attached invitation to instructors preparing students for the Commercial Baking, Culinary Arts or Food & Beverage Service state competitions. Baltimore International College is hosting an information seminar, Thursday, January 21, 2010, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at BIC’s Culinary Arts Center, 210 S. Central Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21202.
